windows last night wanted to update (he said the newset deffenition Windows Defender) and now all my personal setings have been removed, my background, all my shortcuts and even my firefox bookmarks backup when I started the computer open and he came with the new firefox instaloled versoin screen, and each piece of software like loads up its the first time.

been deleted, or does it create a new profile for you? I'm not a machine Vista at the moment but will try to C: \ Documents and Settings (or something similar, this is the way in XP) and see if your old profile is still there. Sometimes it will copy the old into something like Profilename.000, May still be there.

low-level format your hard drive and install Linux. This is the best way to manage that.
