I'm looking for a backup software that'll sync certain folders in my internal and external HDs. any ideas?

I always growing music library (100gb and robust). I bought an external hard drive to back it up and use while traveling. I am looking for a simple software that will make sure my \ folder of music is synchronized with the external drive, so that I could just as easily listen to music from the outside when connecting to another PC.

It is important to keep the \ music \ Artist \ album of structure in tact as I am very methodical about the artwork and good mp3 marking of music.

All ideas for a program that will do when I connect the external HD? Preferably not automatic, I will gladly start the application once a week or so, the USB connection and synchronization. Similar to the way in which works with Palm prospects etc.

freeware would be best, but I do not mind paying as well, if necessary. I got rid of all my records and the collection is now some GS ...

Hello,

Here is a link that might help you. It explains how to set up a scheduler for backups and you can choose what you want to save and destination. I do not know if it is that you tried, and if the user must be connected. If so, there are recommendations for alternative methods of saving data in the bottom of the Web page.

Hopefully this helps

backup software for photos from 1hhd to another?

From your comments
Hello, improve a photographer and I 2 external 300gig Firewire hard and I want to keep all my pictures on one and keep stored on the other in case of a hard drive crash. What software would be the best for this? Then, when they fully replace them with 2 new readers.

There are multiple ways of doing this. The best way is to have a daisy chain configuration. A large number of external hard drives will allow multiple hard drives (of the same brand) to be connected to one another.

Otherwise watch a product called Veritas (www.veritas.com), which is a very good backup software. You can set up different types of safeguards, including one to create a mirrored drive on the other (which is essentially what you want).

Google search for disk mirroring software for a list of other software to help you to observe and to be cheaper. A mirrored disk is the way to go because you save a hard drive to another is automatically updated to reflect your primary hard drive.

Is it worth it to spend $50 a year on a PC Backup software?

Answering to you comment:
I do not have that many important files ... Just how the school is on my computer. Do you think I need to buy a PC backup software?
That depends. I used StompSoft PC backup on all computers that are in my house, including my children. So did all that important? Probably not, but I know from experience that this is not important now may hold important later. For example, I used to have many poems on my computer that I had written when I was a teenager. At that time there were minimal value, but now some 15 years later, I really missed their support and regret not relinquish.

So, the choice is yours. It suffices to recall that it is easier to get rid of something that you do not need to recover that you, but no longer possess.

Is there any way to make a backup of Windows XP Home Edition without using 3rd party backup software?

answering to your comment:
I got my computer package 5 years. Windows XP has been preloaded into him. I do not have backup option in the system tool, it has only restored. They do not have a backup disk either. Is there any way to make a backup without having to buy the software to do?
Everything worth anything is going to cost some money. If you think your system and the documents are not worth buying a program on its own, then you are actually in the creek. If you have been using your system for 5 years without any problems, you are a very careful and lucky person, but eventually, your hard disk will bite the dust.

Here is a quote from PCMAG.COM:

"... The disks provided by most PC manufacturers are designed for one purpose: to restore your computer to the state it was when you purchased it. The process involves wiping the hard drive and then install Microsoft Windows and the handful of programs originally included in your PC. unless you prepare the whole kit and caboodle for sale on eBay, this is probably not something you need.

Secondly, the recovery equipment drivers on your CD are probably not up to date, whether canceled versions recent and best available online, or simply unimportant because of the new hardware you have installed ....."

This is where it is important to have a program in the image of your hard drive. I Acronis. It is worth the money. I photographed my drive to an external HD. In this way, you have everything that is on your C drive (or any other disk drive is the master of your drive )...... Operating system, all installed programs, documents, pictures, etc. in an image of the grease. If your drive is toasted you all in one place.

Where can I download the Windows backup software that is included with Windows XP Home?

Backup Software is one of those things that generally you do not want to skimp on. It is terribly costly first time until it loses any important file that you can not recover. Three categories: cheap, easy to use and works well. Pick two.

Veritas is a good backup office, but again, I think we are talking about your price range. $ 100-200 usually means a connection license for a single machine.

Another solution is based on backup windows, and savinng compressed backup file to a centralized share, where you can save and restore and from a single tape device.

Why is that people buy separate backup software when Windows comes equipped with a backup utility?

ravi, youwrote:

Norton Ghost is not the only software backups.
There are many others. For example Acronis True Image (by the way, it is the software that I use for backups -
).
Every society creates something different, again, who wins over consumers.
The only thing perhaps low prices, or some extra features, etc. eg MS backup utility does not have differential or incremental backup option (if you want to know the difference between them and go full protection wikipedia.org). Also there is no online backup feature, which is quite useful.

using a program called "copy clone." I have a mac, but might work for cc pc too. Virtually everything you need is an external hard drive. The partition and make it bootable. Cc software allows you to copy or simply essential files. The external head will be used to start the computer by proxy and containing your backup. In case your comp crashes you can simply start the external hard drive and copy files to your comp. Cc is a freely downloadable program. Just Google.

Best Backup Software?

yourwrote,educated homeboy
I heard Acronis True Image 10 Home is the best backup software on your computer, but it may not be true. What do you think?

True Image is good, but it can be a bit flakey in my experience. I would not use it as my only backup system, as I do not have full confidence in it restore my PC. Also, the support is a bit low.

If you use Vista Home Premium, and Ultimate Business, built in backup is really good. You can schedule backups of all your files, or take a picture or your PC as you can with Acronis TI.

Another good backup program (if you do not have Vista) is Backup4All-Fee $ 40.

Finally, as the other measures might not be sufficient if your house is burning, or if you are robbed, I Mozy online backup (). It is a great program. You install it and it will save your files to a website on the Internet. If the worst ever happens, you just have to download all your files again when you receive another PC.

Mozy offer 2Gb free account (which is not bad-enough for hundreds of photos or files), but also unlimited backup for $ 4.95/month, if you have lots of files. I use for about 6 months, and it works quite nicely.

In other words, can save approximately 34 GB of data on the outside 40GB HDD even if it nearly full already?

Best backup software for windows?

What is the best backup software for Windows? I want something that can restore the image of a hard drive very fast. I tried Acronis True Image, it works fine, but it can take hours to restore. The last time, it took 9 hours to restore a 50GB hard disk image. Backup does not take so long. Usually, only 10-15 minutes. I do not know why it takes so long to restore.

Any program that can recover quickly?

What backup software will do this?

answering to your comments, kfoxcpa:
I am looking for backup software that gives the user once the possibility of creating an image of hard disk or backup and restore only certain files. Is there one that does both?

Nice to see someone concerned about safeguarding their data. It is much easier to restore from a backup than attempt to recover the lost data.

I always say: "If this is something you would feel really bad if you lost, you have a better backup."

A good backup program is free Comodo Backup. It will not create the image of the hard drive, but can save all files and folders on your PC.
Has a synchronization feature to help keep your backup to date.
A function to make regularly scheduled backups.

And best of all - it's FREE!

He has done a good job for me.

Hard Drive Backup Software Question?

What I would like to know, is there a program that I can back up my hard disk to a DVD for the way HP and Compaq do theirs? Create a dvd to restore you might say. I set up a copy of Windows XP just like I do with all my staff software included. Now I want to create a DVD that I could simply insert and restore my computer back to exactly this way if he ever crashes. All software that I found requires reinstalling windows first, and then perform a restoration. I want the DVD to get the job done for me and just install everything back as it is now without having to reinstall first. SoftThinks makes recovery dvd as I speak for HP and Compaq. Hopefully I do not have much to confuse you? Any help will be readily appreciated. Thanks!

What backup software do you use to BURN backup CDs?

expansionsw, answering to comments
Years ago, I used the ONE STEP Backup with my old Zip Drive. Once I configured it, it was ONE CLICK and it made an awesome backup and archive set.

What software is easy for making a good backup and archive set on CD-R or CD-RW? (can CD-RWs be used, so space is used properly).

Better yet, I would like this great backup software to be a FREE download and work with any configuration of Windows.
On Compaq computers, they provided this SONIC burner software that provies a really easy Backup/Archive program. There is nothing to configure.

When you run it, you simply pick.... Photos, Documents, Graphics and other things that you want it to back up. It then builds the full list of your data files that it will backup for you. Then it tells you how many CDs that you need.

I don't know where to buy or download it.

Backup Software for Multiple Computers?

I'm looking for a good inexpensive backup software that I can install on several different computers to back up to one external USB HDD. I need it to do manual on-demand incremental backups.

In other words I want to be able to do manual backups and only have it backup files that have been changed. I only need to backup certain folders like My Docs and some specific folders I have created. I don't need a full disk or OS backup. I just want something that will do it manually faster than sitting there and having to tell it whether to replace a particular file or not or the old "yes to all".

Thanks in advance.

What backup software would you recommend to backup notebook drive to external USB drive - see added details...

Looking for automated backup software - please consider the following!
- Something that can be set on a schedule.
- Incremental backup after full backup - is it possible to eliminate deleted files folders? i.e. you delete a folder on computer, it is removed from backup? That way I don't restore and find culmination of unused files/folders.
- Replicates info on hard drive versus using a 'package' - some software programs package up backup data and can be restored only with same software. I want to be able to open backup folder from any system (if needed) and have access to files/folders.
- Able to select destination, just just F: drive for example, but F:\Notebook Backup.
- efficient, easy to use interface, reliable, etc!

I have tried CMS software (didn't remove unused/deleted files on subsequent backups), Windows Vista Backup SW/Retrospect SW by EMC (both 'packaged up' backup), and Norton 360 Backup would let me select a destination folder - only to USB Backup Drive.

Backup Software?

Answering to yourr comment,trudy:
What is the best back up software available. If you use one, what do you like about, what do you dislike about it? Why do you prefer it over a different program?
Use Windows XP Backup program to backup your files on CD-RWs.

All versions of Windows include backup programs—but they do not always install themselves by default (XP Home, for example).

To install the Windows backup program: Put the original installation disk in your CD drive and navigate to the folder called /Valueadd/msft/ntbackup.

You will see a file entitled ntbackup.msi. Double-click this file and it will install the free backup program. The free backup program will then appear in the Systems Tools folder (click Start, All Programs, Accessories, Systems Tools, Backup). You can now put (backup) the data on another computer, another hard drive, a CD.

There are other programs that will backup to CDs. The software that came with the CD drive should allow you to backup to CDs. If not, here are a few other programs to consider:
Roxio CD-Creator:
Backup to CD-RW:

I am looking for a backup software that can backup Windows XP and/or Small Business Server 2003. I would prefer one that emails me a confirmation when the backup is complete and can be set up with a schedule. I am looking at only backing up data files and not system files.

I've kinda done that a million times a day, you see that the best application that does the things that you wanna do is Remote Backup, i use it and its a killer app.Its really good. Also if you are looking for free backup software i recommend you to use Free Backup(its the name of the website) this one's great too.

Backup Software?

- Laptop running Windows XP Pro
- Computer running Windows XP Pro
