Complete backup of MBP to USB hard drive.?

Hi. What is the best way to save all my Mac Book Pro laptop computer, an external hard drive?

Preferably using software Freeware, so I do not have to download via BT.

I need to be able to restore it completely. Something like a disk image would be a good thing, but everything suggests are good.

What is the size of your hard drive MBP? The easiest is to buy an external hard disk slightly larger than existing hard drives.
You can store on a CD-R or DVD-R, but I prefer the hard disk method
There are a number of brands out there and relatively cheap.
We use a 200 GB My Book by Western Digital and Seagate 300 Push Button Up Back at home HP Media and a private car which is great to travel with. We also use thumb drives to move things around, check for compatibility with Mac OS and laptop computers. Determine if your camera will be stationary
Or on the road. The Seagate is a great back up device, but it does not travel well (IMHO) if you plan to backup away from the house.
Most readers will save with Limited Edition Software
Or Apple may have the capacity in this OS.There are options to make backups when I do it every week. Windows has a backup utility, built in usuallly but I did not use it. Mac's also have an online tutorial on Back Ups that I linked.
There are also online services to save them, but I never used.
I have listed a few Web sites for more information, including free backup utilities. Dr Mac site gives a good overview of strategies, depending on needs. For example, he suggested to store a backup off-site that I do at work, but I do not at home.

Best bet is to READ ALL KNOWN LIMITATIONS then TRY Carbon Copy Cloner:

If you just want to create backups (NOT a bootable image), you might investigate psync:
