Anyone familiar with free downloadable software that can dvd copy protected dvd's? Or a program that can convert dvd format. Vob films pc readable in any format and compressed, and so on. Mp4,. MPEG,. Avi,. Mov, etc?
I just want to make a backup of my original DVD so I can use this if friends want to borrow the film and I do not need to give all original. I do not want to see scratches and fingerprints of marks on my disks. The least I can do is to compress the dvd hdd or portable so that they can watch on their PC instead.

I can not recommend any reason, according to the law, the commercial DVD copy is illegal. But, by conducting a search on the web, you can find the information you are looking for.
A site that I used to get advice on how to transfer my home and family movies on VHS to DVD, compile vob files, etc. afterdawn.com. The site contains much useful information.

DVD Shrink -
You can choose to save the entire disk, or re-author to eliminate things that you do not want or need, such as subtitles, multiple language audio, menus and additional features. This program is designed for backing up your DVD - it is not record video formats, but will make a copy of the DVD and adapt to a 4gb DVD-R (hence the "shrinkage") .
Or you can save and AUDIO_TS VIDEO_TS folders, which can be read by software such as Windows Media Center, or something like VLC player (- free, multi-media player codec) - it reads records as it would have a DVD.
Not sure if DVD Shrink can convert VOB files directly, but it's something you can try.

Want free software, they are free, but not always do the job better.
