Is DVD copying disabled on some new computers?

My friend got a new HP Pavilion dv2000 laptop with Vista installed on it. It is a "can not copy" message when he tries to safeguard its Disney DVD (which it can save on his large desk). Is this "copy protection" hardware or software issue on his laptop?

(From old blog's comments)
Most likely, yes. Joint protection against copying mistakes are "can not copy" and "cyclical redundancy check." Your friend will need DVD rippers to make a 1:1 copy of its DVD Disney. These rippers will identify and overcome most of the copy protections, allowing you to copy the DVD copy protection as you would on a normal DVD. However, I will let the search for these programs for you.
