Do i need to format a blank DVD before I can copy data files to it?

is a software necessary to do this kind of formatting so I can copy the data files of any type (such as Word file, jpg files, HTML files) for the DVD? What is the most popular software to do this kind of data backup? thank you very much.

You can format any type of disc, DVD-RW, CD-RW, floppy diskette, what you use. But they are usually the format when you buy them. I do not bother if you get an invitation to you disc format, which can sometimes occur, but I do not know why. The easiest way to format if you want is to put the disc into the computer open my computer and right-click on the disk that you use and click format. Or you could use something like Roxio Creator (my computer came with) and is ideal for erasing discs. But if you're just going to save files, jpg, and html files, just make a CD (I prefer the mark Maxwell personally).
I recommend that if you are going to put on file, you get a rewritable disc. That way, if you want to delete something that you put in there and you can still use the disc later. When buying CDs make sure he says CD-RW. He said it is rewritable and I'd like to ensure that it has a large number of disk space (I never buy any less than 700 MB).
If you have a DVD player that is made to be compatible with Windows Media, and I think most of them are now a days, you can play your photos on your TV as a slide show or play files mp3 music out of your DVD player (it sounds good if you have surround sound, so smooth that even stereo).
If you download movies on your computer, you can burn onto a disc and play it on your computer or DVD player. Suffice it to buy discs that are labeled DVD-RW with no less than 4.7 gigabytes of free space on it (what would like to assure you have enough space to write a film unless you download a copy BlueRay after which you need 2 times more space of 4.7 GB
It is very important that you be sure not to buy a DVD which is marked DVD R or DVD RW because they will not play on a DVD player. Once again, I suggest that you buy a DVD rewritable which is the case when you buy the search for DVD-RW. In this way, you can erase and the use again.
I hope this information is useful for you.
Have you thought about maybe buying a flash drive (also called a USB key) I use one and I do can not live without it now. They do their large storage space (mine has 2 GB, more than enough for me) and very easy to carry. I keep mine on my key chain. You can upload files that you might need for the day or if you needed to copy a file that has another, whether a jgp., Mp3, word, etc.. He is really simple to do and whatever you have to do it is to plug into a USB port on your computer and access to the car of your "My Computer" window.
I hope that all this anwers your question and then some.

Good Luck I would say that Nero is the best software for burning. As long as you do not install InCD shit. Other then that you no longer have to format the disk to be burned. Normally the disk will be formatted if necessary before it is to write.
