What is the easiest free way to create a partition that I will be able to restore my computer+software from?

I reformat my computer constantly. However, it is a desire to resettle on the same software and more. I have enough space to spare HD if I could backup my main partition in a "new" format, so that later I can only repeat that the return on the root partition. Which is easier, simple, free way to do it? In addition, some compression on that partition can be nice to save space.

To create a partition, namely:
A) to format the drive, Windows XP in the configuration remove the primary partition, and then create new
B 2) Use a bootable CD, as Knoppix Linux, and " use tool "QTparted" - which allows a partition to be resized and make a new one without losing any data.

As for the backup, Norton Ghost is by far the best, but it is not free. The alternative is free MUCH poorer in comparison. (Http: / / www.xxcopy.com / index.htm)

You may want to check WHY you are so often formatting and resolve this, there is no real need Windows XP - especially with a good anti-virus / spyware tools, and its own system of restoration.

When you format and reinstall your computer instead of formatting the hard disk and reinstall it on one partition, the drive to cut in half (Partition wise) During installation of windows, systems win9x As for using FDISK and NT-based systems using CD and remove the partition, then Press C and make a custom size for your appearance, each Remember GB (hard drive Wise) is 1000mb (Truley 1024mb but companies are counting on the hard drive 1go 1000mb as not 1024mb .. thas why you see 40gb was 37.9, 74.6 as 80go etc. ..)
Like if you have a 40gb hdd. (37.6 truley) Make 2nd partition 18.3 gb's and then you have to 18.3 for your operating system MAIN 18.3 and later as an extended partition, which can remain in the records safley.

next time you format, rather than simply format, use the command fdisk and create extended partition and origin, to decide what size you want, then you create a logical drive, then create your norla active drive to the balance of the space. You will need the backup software, as symantec ghost Stomp save or create your backup image on the disk d after formatted windows and install in c
