How can I set up a software/hardware RAID on a home network?

I am curious about the introduction of a RAID 1 on a desktop computer (Windows XP Home). I just want to attach it to a router and let it sit there for backup or storage. There are only 3 other computers on my home network. Should I use hardware or software raid? Should I use XP Pro 2000/2003 or Windows XP Home or keep him? I am totally new to all this stuff RAID. Please help! Thanks!

(From old blog's comments)
Avez-vous rellement dire que vous voulez une "ddies" ordinateur que vous allez connecter votre routeur des sauvegardes / stockage pour le repos de votre ordinateur sur le rseau?

This makes much more sense that this computer is already a backup computer and no need to save a backup.

If so, you can use low-cost, inexpensive computer with Linux (free) the operation of the system to build such a home Terabyte Backup System (using Linux)

Link to the article, which speaks of this

If you really want to build a RAID storage server, you can read these articles that talk about this. One of them speak budget to build storage server with RAID-1
