Upgrading tape backup.?

I try to convence my boss to allow us to move from a 3rd NTBackup part of the program's backup software, such as Symantec BackupExec. I have been told that we are in the past using NTBackup, but nobody has ever explained why. Someone can help me understand why a 3rd party backup programs is much more robust than NTBackup?
PS It is a small company with less than 50 employees, but a large number of data to store.

Rewrite period of time can be defined (Useful if we forgot to change the tape, the tape in the drive will not be used or rewrited)
GUI
Agents assist other applications (Exchange, SQL) for more flexible operation, where we can use the backup to restore a single email or a single mailbox.
Centralized network backup.
