If i add an external hard drive to my lap top can i copy EVERYTHING over so i have a perfect backup???

samo_the_gooner!! asked:
Or is i always need additional software to make a copy at 100%?
Why not simply make the easiest way, rather than copying files from your system that may be corrupt anyway thats why your system is not working the way it should. Why not just transfer the things you want to record music is important to video materials etc etc make records for these items and do not forget to save your favorites and then once you re-install your system c ' is a matter of putting all the things in their back Bon place. That's what I do i would never dream of making a backup of my file system because they are of no use in your system that would no longer be the way it was before you re-installed it then why waste all that on anything. Send me an email if you need expert advice mate. Using

First you have to buy an external hard drive which has more storage capacity of your laptop.

After that, you will need an imaging program for the copy (copy simply does not mean that you can boot from the external drive). You can find these free programs here

You will need a program that will allow you to image your drive. This will give a byte for byte copy and will be even bootable.

norton ghost and make a backup image of your main drive and save it to another drive on your pc. Then, when you need to make a backup of your hard main norton ghost put the installation CD and boot from cd symantec starrt recovery disk. Select the image backup and click ok. Your main drive backup can be like that. You can save other readers also in this way.

Yes, you can save ALL, but unfortunately it will not be in time to use emergency. You will need a true backup / image as a manufacturer of software such as Acronis True Image credit through an image of your hard disk on the external drive. In addition, I recommend setting up a start-up system using Acronis same on both discs. This will ensure the recovery SAFE in a type of emergency whatsoever. Good luck.
