I am using Windows XP and I have a DVD burner and software Nero dvd. I can not afford a pen-drive. They are outside my budget.

It depends on what you want to save.

If you use Windows XP, you already have the ability to create restore points on your computer. Right-click the My Computer icon>> properties>> tab system restore

If you are interested in backing up your important files .. As documents, bookmarks, music files and so on. So your DVD burner is a great way to go .. The DVD will 3.2Gigs typical data ... You can probably save some money and at the back of your data regularly, up to a CD-R that holds (depending on what you get) 650 - 800mb which is much more space than the average Persons My Documents folder holds, and they are much cheaper than DVDs are You can burn a few copies.

I suggest you keep a file of all the installation disks programs. If you buy software from the Internet, then you might want to burn the installation program on a CD and put it in your binder incase you ever need to reinstall everything.

These are cheaper and easier solutions. A roll of 25 CD you probably will not work a few bucks ... If you buy a roll of 50 or 100 they get even cheaper ... Pennies per CD.
DVD are backwards compatible so that you will be able to use CD-R in it.

Good Luck.

An external hard drive is the best solution, I am not sure what your budget is, but you can get a decent-sized and one for less than $ 100. Otherwise burn data you think is important to a DVD or CD, DVD and CD's do not last forever, they degrade over time. With an external hard drive, you can plug in USB copy of your important files, and then plug it in this way, it is not sensitive to power surges.

Just set up a new data disc with Nero and add your data files to burn list. Using dvd - rw for maximum storage and reuse.

Try using a DVD .. It is much more effective if you have a lot of data .. To back up your data, just use nero .. And for their use of DVD burning, and then add the files that you need ... Then just burn the DVD and DVD

Nero should solve your problem.
