Why is designing sites that are incompatible w/ antivirus software and browser security settings so PERVASIVE?

On the Web?

Every site I visit, I have to cancel or disable something so that the site will appear.

That just does not seem very professional, to demand sacrifices for the security of an end user.

Web designers seem to be more loving and various Flash ActiveX controls USERS are not real. Even now, people continue to use images for navigation, text with no backup links (not anything that impedes SEO).

How to design sites that can work with any cut? It would be a helluva lot more impressive than the latest Flash trick you just learn and feel compelled to make.

The site while working on the "tech guy" at the moment has no nagging features. 99% of it works without javascript, images, flash, etc. etc. There is even an option to turn off images while retaining the layout.

ActiveX is rubbish anyway not to use IE .... for a start!
