What are the best storage ideas for home desktop backup storage?

I just want to use it to store my data files, movies, photos and music. Total storage for all of this (although it is increasingly all the time) is about 800 right now. I considered just using CD but my software (Roxio) retains become incompatible with Windows updates and it becomes frustrating .... Not to mention the time. I also considered using USB drive (s) or purchase an external hard drive. Have you had a personal experience with all of this? Do you have any suggestions on this? Thanks!

Make a separate partition on your hard drive and store things in the secondary that you keep all files in the windows of the other ... O get juice or another external hard disk

USB flash drives are daunting. Simply drag files over them, and alter the content whenever you want. It is by far the fastest and easiest way to back up files. (Great for moving files to another computer.) So far, the biggest I have seen is 4 GB.
