Picasa photo software: Is there a way to keep it from automatically importing?

I would like to use this software, but because it wants to create a library alone, I prefer to use ACDSee, which does not start creating backups and a library alone. I just want to use my Picasa2 to browse directories, and have the choice of manipulating one every now and then. I do not want a huge library kept by Picasa. Is there a way to do so with Picasa, which I failed, or is it Picasa's way or the highway? Click
