Question : Is it possible to clone a Windows 2000 file server?

Question Details: If so, will the clone to provide access to applications under license? We are currently managing a software program for our professional medical practice in a Dell PowerEdge server, and we are concerned that if one of the servers RAID drives crashed, we would not able to access our software. Someone has suggested a "relief" server cloned from the original server. However, another person said that most of the licensed software can not be cloned just to include the software license. Thus, the server would be cloned, but the professional software would not work in the backup server emergency. Is that correct? Thank you.

(From old blog's comments)
Well, it depends.

I have cloned a number of servers, and all have worked if necessary.
I use one of these two programs to do:

Windows Ultimate Boot disc, and then DriveImageXML
Or
G4L (Ghost for Linux).

In all my business, I have an image so that if I lost a player, I could REPLACE HD and shoot the image of the new hard drive.

In any case, if you have a backup server around, you could make a picture, then use it on the backup server and see if it works.

The software in question should be anal enough to check things like HD and serial numbers of CPUs.

Good Luck.
