I bought a Seagate FreeAgent Pro 320 GB hard disk.

I want to use it primarily for backup of my laptop and my PC in the event of non-HD or worse on either system. I have used the "system recovery" on both computers in the past and hatred that I have to dig for each software that I have used and have to recharge them. So I want to use Acronis True Image but I'm not sure about how to use this feature.
I want to do more than just the return of files like pictures and videos, I would like to keep all my settings and software that I have on my computer. So how, or do I do with Acronis? And if so I would not need a partition on the Seagate for each computer? How do I do that? Yes

. Acronis will be great ... Each of your backup "cloning" are files in a folder on your external Seagate FreeAgent - no need for separate partitions at all.
procedure is simple - to install and implement Acronis ... it say that you want to save a set of player ... select the entire C drive for backup ... it will copy the entire contents of the C drive, including FAT hidden partition that your recovery software factory and place it all in one big (for example 22GB) on the external file Seagate FreeAgent. The next time you want to do another backup, you can make another full backup on the external Seagate FreeAgent.
few months of this you will have perhaps 10 or so large 22GB files on the FreeAgent - each represent a complete backup that could be loaded onto a bare hard disk if you find that your dies on you .... You can then remove from time to time the oldest copies to make room for those to come ...
sure to leave Home Acronis TrueImage version 11 to make a boot disk for you .. you'll need to restore. It must also be aware that restores not fully erase everything that was previously on the disc ... personal data that is ...

You've probably been able to do so by going to Disk Management delete partition and division in your specifications or you can probably use a third-party product like Partition Magic. In this way, you can do on the fly.
Once done it just a question of starting Acronis backup image and "the whole system. What it does preserve all settings and where you can recharge from the last time you made a picture.
