Help solve DVD Slow Burn Rate.?

I backup my files AVI my external drive to DVD. Although the target rate of burning up the software detects is 8X, the burning rate is still between 3.1-3.5x. It takes about 35 minutes to burn a DVD. Is my PC bottleneck? What are the ways to improve it if you do not think my PC is the bottleneck?
I have another burner (nonSony) and burning the same slow. Please help.
thank you very much.
My system:
DVD: Sony DRU-120C Burn Rate two 16X - DVD
DVD Disc: Verbatim tried both and - 8X and 16X
PC: Pentium 3: 800 Mhz (I know it's old)
Software: Roxio Creator 8

Your computer is undoubtedly the source of the bottleneck. In your case, processor speed is the most important factor that determines the speed of writing. The second factor is the amount of RAM you have installed. When you burn a DVD, the files on your hard drive are copied to external memory and then save it to the blank DVD You can speed things up by leaving all open programs before burning. This frees up two CPU cycles and memory. This is the easy part. Other things you can do is increase your virtual memory and overclock your CPU - not easy. If you want to try these last 2 points, send me an e-mail and I can give some good articles with instructions. Its

probably not your PC, but it could be.

Its external hard drives. The data comes from the player to your computer, which has a slower processor, via a USB connection, and it is then burned.

try to copy the data on your internal hard drive in a partition with lots of free space, preferably before burning.
